Yafet Girmai, Master’s Level Clinical Intern
Practicing Since: 2019
Yafet aims to create a supportive and empathetic atmosphere for his clients, where they feel safe exploring their thoughts and emotions. His approach is collaborative- focusing on understanding each individual’s unique needs, challenges and goals. Yafet likes to utilize a blend of evidence-based techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for addressing negative thought patterns, and mindfulness practices to help clients build self-awareness and manage stress. Also utilizing holistic approaches to treatment that focus on treating the whole person rather than just specific symptoms. These approaches consider physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of health.
Yafet views mental health and the therapeutic process as a self-assignment for our own internal growth holistically. It’s a vital component of overall well-being, encompassing emotional, psychological, and social aspects of our lives. It influences how we think, feel, and interact with others. The therapeutic process is a supportive educational journey toward better understanding yourself and enhancing your mental and emotional well-being.
Having earned his Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University, Yafet is currently in his second year of Graduate School at Morgan State University studying Social Work with the goal of earning his Master’s degree.
In his spare time, Yafet enjoys various types of physical and mental activities, including running, playing soccer, hiking, visiting museums, live music concerts, watching documentaries, meditation, and kemetic yoga.
Yafet Girmai is under the clinical supervision of Stephen Osterhout, LCSW-C, Maryland (#09238).
