Frederick Avolio, LCPC
Practicing Since: 2013
Counseling provides various models of relating to and working with clients. The model Fred prefers is “Love – Know – Speak – Do,” to better function as an instrument of real heart change in client’s lives.
Love: First, a counselor should care, even before the first contact because every person has intrinsic worth and the right to treatment with dignity.
Know: Through conversation and exploration, the counselor gets to know the client’s story, not just facts about him or her.
Speak: Through caring and knowing, Fred seeks to earn the right to speak truth into the client’s situation. Not his truth, but the truth based on the client’s stated values, beliefs, observations, insights, and things discovered in our counseling sessions.
Do: Fred will create a plan with the client for their work together, periodic action plans, and sometimes he will assign homework.
Fred is from Long Island, New York and moved to Maryland in 1979 with a Masters degree in Computer Science. After a 30+ year career, he retired from that work to pursue a career in counseling. Fred and his wife have been married since 1980 and have 9 children. Fred has a Master of Science counseling degree from Loyola University Maryland and is a state licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Fred is licensed in the state of Maryland #LC6410.
