Adama Jang, Master’s Level Clinical Intern

Practicing Since: 2024

Adama believes as a counselor, that she should provide a suitable atmosphere where her clients feel safe enough to express their thoughts and feelings through open communication without fear of judgement or repercussions. Everyone should feel genuinely supported and heard through empathy and validation of their feelings, and because Adama believes that each person knows themselves best and can manage themselves, she would want to create an atmosphere where her clients feel empowered and encouraged to take active roles in their therapeutic journey.

Mental health is an important part of everyone’s overall health, which is so often ignored. Many view mental health as merely the absence of a mental disorder, but it goes beyond that, as it also factors the presence of skills and abilities to manage stressors, make good decisions, maintain positive relationships and other positive characteristics that help in everyday functioning.

The therapeutic process on the other hand, in Adama’s view, is a collaborative effort between counselor and client, with the aim of helping the client journey through a road of self-discovery, healing and growth. It’s collaborative because both the counselor and client have a role to play. A client comes in with the willingness to work towards their goals, while the counselor supports them by providing the tools to better understand and work on their challenges to achieve their goals.

Adama is a divorced mother of 2 teenagers, and in her free time, likes to binge watch her favorite shows (Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, and Grey’s Anatomy to name a few), cook, dance, and paint to de-stress. She also used to be an avid biker, and still has her motorbike to this day.

Adama Jang is under the clinical supervision of Stephanie Sherrer, LCPC, Maryland (#LC11063).
